Associate Therapist
Mental Health Counselor (MHC-LP)
I’m Eric James, an Associate Therapist at Love Light Mental Health Counseling Services, PLLC, serving clients in New York and New Jersey. As an African American therapist, I understand the importance of cultural identity and its influence on mental health. I’m deeply committed to supporting clients on their journeys toward healing, meaning, and personal empowerment.
My work is grounded in holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care, with a focus on helping individuals manage anxiety, trauma, and emotional challenges through evidence-based, mindfulness-oriented therapy.
Drawing from my background in neuroscience and psychotherapy, I provide trauma-informed, evidence-based care that is both culturally responsive and client-centered. My approach is grounded in mindfulness, existential exploration, and social justice, creating space for clients to reflect, heal, and grow. I strive to build a therapeutic relationship rooted in trust, authenticity, and presence, empowering individuals to make informed, value-aligned choices as they move toward lasting emotional well-being.
I support individuals and families in addressing anxiety, stress management, trauma recovery, existential exploration, and cultural or systemic stressors. My therapeutic style is integrative and tailored to each client’s goals, drawing from mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy (MB-CBT), existential therapy, culturally responsive therapy, and trauma-informed care. I also emphasize collaborative goal-setting to ensure clients define therapy on their own terms, guided by personal and cultural values.
I hold a PhD in Neuroscience and am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Mental Health and Wellness Counseling at New York University (NYU). I am practicing under the supervision of Sherene Henry, LMHC-D (NY); LPC (NJ). This supervisory relationship ensures that I receive ongoing professional support and guidance, allowing me to provide high-quality, ethical, and client-centered care.
Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy weightlifting, running, reading philosophy and history, and cooking—I consider myself an eclectic chef. I value time with my family and engage in self-care through mindfulness, physical movement, and reflective study—practices that mirror the wellness strategies I invite my clients to explore.
